How to go about it

Antes de empezar a escribir, piensa en los eventos que van a ocurrir en tu historia y en cómo acabará.

  • Tu historia tiene que estar bien contada, por lo que lo lógico y más seguro es contarla en el mismo orden que los sucesos ocurren.
  • Usa conectores y diferentes tiempos verbales para guiar al lector; usa adjetivos y adverbios para añadir viveza a las descripciones; usa el reported speech y expresiones de tiempo para sonar más dramático.

Linkers

Como en la unidad 7 ya vimos muchos linkers que podemos usar en nuestras stories, aquí vamos a centrarnos en time linkers.

Group 1

1- When means cuando

When he got to the airport, the plane had already taken off.

He got very angry when he found out about it.

2- While means mientras

While he was admiring the views, it began to rain

A thief broke into his house while he was doing some errands

3- As soon as significa tan pronto como, en cuanto, nada más

She ran home as soon as she heard the news

4- As means mientras and conforme/a medida que

He sat watching her as she got ready

She got more scared as she went deeper into the forest

5- By the time means para cuando

By the time we got to the airport, the plane had already taken off

6- Once means una vez que

Once you start, there’s no going back

Group 2

1- Before means antes, antes de

I thought carefully about it before making a decision

I had seen her two years before

2- After means después de

I regretted my decision after seeing the consequences

I regretted my decision after I saw the consequences

3- Until means hasta

They had to wait until the rain stopped

4- Afterwards means después

Afterwards she was sorry for what she had said

5- Then means después, entonces

We lived in France and then Italy before coming back to England

6- Next means a continuación

We were excited to see what she would do next.

Group 3

1- Since means desde

I hadn’t seen her since our last date

2- For means desde hace, durante

I hadn’t seen her for 2 years

3- From then on means de entonces en adelante

From then on, she was a completely different girl

4- Ago means hace (time)

I saw her two years ago

5- Back means antes, allá (time)

Back in the 90s there was nothing to worry about
