Short extract 1


Which vegetables do they decide to put in the stew?
– So for the stew, which vegetables should we add? My mother uses carrots and potatoes.
– Only those two vegetables? It must be a bit bland. Well, we’re using the onion that I’ve just washed, although half of it will be enough. A few slices of cucumber and a red pepper if there’s any left.
– There are a few of them in the freezer, but we’ve got plenty of time, so that’s not a problem. However, I ate the cucumber yesterday, so can we use these mushrooms instead?
– It will add some flavour to the stew. Brilliant!

Short extract 2


What happened to the girl this afternoon?
You’ll never guess what happened to me this evening! I was cycling to Peter’s house, when there was this rain, and I fell off my bike when I was turning. Next thing I know is that my DVDs were lying all over the pavement. I didn’t hurt myself, though. It’s a good job that a nice woman saw the accident and quickly came to my help. She even picked up all my DVDs for me. It’s a shame my bike got damaged and I’m afraid I’ll have to get it fixed soon, as I was planning to take part in next week’s race.

Long extract 1


A- George? Wow, look at you, you’re so…fit.

B- Thanks! yes… I couldn’t stop gaining weight and decided to look after myself

A- That’s great. Yes… you had such a sedentary life… no wonder you were putting on some weight. You feel better now, don’t you?

B- Absolutely! it really makes a big difference to develop healthy habits… and it’s kind of addictive.

A- I can tell! I haven’t really paid much attention to my health lately… You see? my abs don’t show any more… haha

B- haha being healthy means much more than just having visible abs… but yeah, maybe you should change your current habits… 

A- hmm yeah… but I don’t really know what to do… I guess that eating healthy food and get some exercise, right? Everybody says the same…

B- Yes, food and exercise are important. However, apart from working out and eating nutritious foods like vegetables, eggs, and so on, there are a few things that will make you lose weight and feel better.

A- huh, go on…

B- Well, first, keep track of your sleep time, make sure you sleep is long and good enough. Also, drink a lot of water, like 2-3 liters a day, and find a way to let off steam, this is important. Identify your sources of stress and try to do something about them. A lot of professionals recommend meditating, I haven’t tried it though, so I can’t tell you my experience with it. 

A- I see… it’s not as difficult as I thought…

B- You should also learn new skills, like playing chess, cooking or painting… they will help you switch off and feel happier. 

A- Right… Actually, I’ve been thinking of taking up cookery lessons, so…
