A visit to the museum
I’ve just been to the museum in our city. That was my first visit, believe it or not! I wanted to collect some information for our class history project. We have to hand it in soon, don’t we?
I’ve still got some work to do on my project, so I’ll need to go back to the museum again some time soon. In fact, why don’t we go together? I don’t think you’ve been there before, have you? I’m sure you’ll find something that you could use for your project, hopefully!

It is difficult to find your perfect job. Sometimes the work is interesting but the pay is too low. Maybe you have to work with difficult colleagues or you don’t believe in the ideas of the company. But working from home isn’t easy; your office and your bedroom might be the same place. You need to have some rules so that you don’t just sit around all day, wasting time.

Nintendo
The company was created in 1889, over one hundred years ago. They had sold card games for about 80 years before they entered the world of video games. Their first game was EVR Racer released in 1975. In 1981 they released a game which would change history. It was called Donkey Kong. It was an arcade game so you could only play it in shopping centres and other pulbic places and you had to put money in.

The invention of cars
The invention of the first car is a fascinating story, as it involves various pioneers and ingenious ideas. From the 1850s to the early 1910s, numerous inventors around the world were busy playing with machines that could revolutionise transportation. Da vinci designed something that looked like a car, Cugnot came up with the idea of adding wheels to it, Daimler put a gas engine on it, but many more smart people contributed to the invention. At the end of the day, it’s like a puzzle with multiple pieces that finally were put together, which makes it challenging to identify a single inventor. So, if someone asks you “who invented the car”, bear in mind that you’re never going to get it right!

A new business

A difficult relationship

A trip
Y ahora me gustaría hablaros sobre algunas de las actividades que hemos organizado para vuestro último fin de semana. Ahora que el curso se ha acabado, os podéis relajar y creo que estaréis muy interesados en lo que tenemos planeado.
Como de normal, hoy es noche de viernes en la discoteca de Sam. Esta noche va a ser un poco especial, no porque sea vuestro último fin de semana sino porque Sam cumple 30 años hoy, y vamos a hacer una gran fiesta allí. Así que, desde las 8:30 de esta tarde, la discoteca de Sam será el sitio para estar y está a mitad de precio antes de las 10:30.
Ahora, para los que estén interesados en el fútbol, hemos organizado un partido contra los estudiantes de la universidad de Henry. Normalmente hacemos el partido en la playa, pero este vez será en el Park Sur. Si eres futbolista, ven a las 2 en punto mañana. Está en frente del nuevo polideportivo y no es difícil de encontrar. Después, hemos pensado en juntarnos, las dos universidades. Hemos intentado reservar en la pizzería de aquí, pero desafortunadamente no caben más de 12 personas.
En vez de eso hemos decidido hacer una fiesta en la playa. Nos reuniremos de nuevo en la universidad y nos iremos para allá todos juntos a las 5. Hemos conseguido convencer a un par de guitarristas del pub de la ciudad para que vengan y nos toquen algo.
El domingo será el último evento y vamos a hacer un picnic en el bosque Thornton. Todos debemos quedar en la universidad a las 12 y cuarto. Iremos andando hasta la estación y tomaremos el tren de la 1 menos cuarto para Thornton. Son más o menos 20 minutos de viaje y luego un pequeño paseo hasta el bosque. Y parece que vamos a tener suerte con el tiempo. Los profesores traerán toda la comida – pollo, ensalada, panecillos, y platos y cosas así. Todo el mundo parece tener una bebida favorita hoy en día, así que nos gustaría que la proporcionarais vosotros. Pero no os preocupéis por los vasos – traeremos vasos de plástico nosotros.
Hay un pequeño lago en medio del bosque que nosotros siempre visitamos. No es lo suficientemente profundo para que os bañéis en él, ni hay peces allí. Pero es muy bonito, así que traeros las cámaras. Es muy agradable sentarse y relajarse al lado del agua después de ir allí caminando.
Volveremos a casa antes de que se haga de noche, así que deberíamos volver más o menos a las 6 y media. Bueno, alguna alguna pregunta…
A place called Lidsey
Para los que no conocemos la zona, cuéntanos algo sobre Lidsey.
Bueno, llevo viviendo aquí 10 años. Es una ciudad pequeña con una población de más o menos 7.500. Decidimos mudarnos de Londres y estábamos buscando un negocio pequeño que comprar. Pensamos que Lidsey parecía una buena ciudad donde vivir. Las calles están llenas de tiendas pequeñas y acogedoras – tiendas de comida, de antiguedades y los típicos báncos y oficinas. Al final compramos un pequeño hotel en el centro que se construyó en 1368, así que tiene bastante historia. Necesitaba mucho trabajo, pero ahora es un negocio con mucho éxito.
Lo especial de Lidsey es la amplia avenida que antes tenía un canal. Los barcos antes venían hasta el centro para transportar comida cultivada en la zona, principalmente patatas y zanahorias, desde Lidsey hasta Londres en barco. El canal lo cimentaron hace años y ahora es una avenida, como digo. No hay mucha industria en la zona ahora, pero hay una pequeña empresa cerca del río que fabrica barcos.
En los viejos tiempo, la familia que poseía la mayor parte de la ciudad vivía en una gran casa cerca del centro. Por desgracia, la casa fue derribada hace unos 10 años. Pero parte del jardín está ahora abierto al público, y la gente viene de los alrededores para visitarlo.
También tenemos uno de los mejores museos de la zona, que está en el ayuntamiento. Hay un montón de diferentes salas amuebladas como se amueblaban antes, y está abierto de abril a septiembre los jueves y domingos por las tardes.

Bueno papá, sé usar un ordenador desde que tengo 4 años, por lo que claro que no es difícil. Es fácil aprender cosas cuando eres niño. Es como aprender a montar en bici, una vez lo sabes hacer no lo olvidas nunca.
Cierto. He probado a leer las instrucciones para el ordenado – parecen muy liosas – tú probablemente puedas entenderlas, pero yo de verdad que no puedo.
Yo tampoco las encuentro fácil de seguir – lo que dicen es claro para nada. La mejor forma es siemplemente sentarte y usarlo.
Esa es mi dificultad, creo – simplemente es que no había ordenadores cuando era joven, así que no he aprendido a usar el ordenador bien. Es demasiado tarde para aprender ya.
